A proud native of San Jose, California, Sara Mordecai has been creating paintings and murals for over 14 years. She received her MFA from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and returned years later when asked to teach illustration in both their undergraduate and graduate departments. Although she enjoyed teaching, Sara wanted to maintain her focus on her freelance studio work out of her business, Three Moons Studio.

Over the years her paintings have graced numerous products for such companies as Orange Coast Magazine, the San Jose Mercury News, the Contra Costa Times, Natural Wonders, Piatti Restaurants, Bell Sports, USA Weekly and the board games Ghost Writer and Twisted Tales for University Games.

Her studio work also includes larger commissioned pieces for Starbucks Corporation and Kaiser Permanente Hospitals and their clinics. In addition to her studio work, Sara is the Design Director of Illustration for Yahoo! where she creates icons, illustrations, greeting cards and animations.

Sara is also seasoned at creating large scale chalk mural pieces and can be found throughout the summer season traveling around California creating street murals in cities such as Santa Barbara, Mission Viejo, San Diego, Tahoe, San Jose and San Rafael. In 2002 she was the featured muralist in San Rafael and created a 10' x 16' image of a muse to honor their efforts in raising money for continued arts education for children.

In 2001, in Mantova Italy, Sara competed in the International Street Muraling competition and was the only American to place and win a medal. Locally, in 2003, she won the People's Choice award for her mural at Santana Row in San Jose. Recently she took First Place at Santana Row for her Lullaby mural over Mother's Day weekend.
