This is the piece I submitted for the "Love and Chaos Revisited" show. It is a painting of the Moon and Sun courting with a backdrop of the universe/night sky. I came to this idea from different points. Firstly, when I was a little girl, my mother always told us that she loved us so much that her love would fill from "here, to the moon and back again, a thousand trillion times."

With this conceptual image firmly placed in my mind's sketchbook, my imagination then added the notions that (1) everything is born out of chaos; and (2) of the courtship of the sun and moon; and (3) how these two celestial bodies are symbols for the days and the nights of all our lives. As such they represent both markers and cycles of life as we know it and as the universe knows it.

I also wanted to express how life and the universe, and LOVE, represent CHAOS IN BALANCE. Scientifically we know the sun and moon do hang out together in the same sky, though continents apart. My painting shows them together, balanced, giving birth to love. My painting is designed so that you can hang it any way and it will still maintain a pleasing, balanced composition.

"One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star." (Quote from Nietzsche.) Notice the backdrop stars in my painting are hearts of love. Out of chaos, Love!
